Sermon: More Than the Now

Scripture: Genesis 5:1-32

Featured Verse: Genesis 5:1
This is the book of the generations of Adam.

Sermon Summary:
The Bible has several examples of genealogies: lists of family generations. The one in Genesis 5 is meant to help us notice how the blessing of God will eventually overcome the curse of sin. We see the overall faithfulness of God over time, but we also see a few notable examples of out-of-the-ordinary blessing. How can those stories encourage us and inform our life today?

Faith@Work Workshop: Trusting the Process in Uncertainty
May 19 | 11am | Fellowship Hall
We live in a world of uncertainty and expectations of quick fixes and answers.  When we are asked to “trust the process” as we wait for that promotion or work our way through layers of bureaucracy to get things done, our judgement, patience and resilience are often tested. This workshop will explore why trusting the process is often necessary and how we can lean on our trust in Christ to guide us.

Leadership Institute Interest Lunch
May 19 | 12:30pm | Fellowship Hall
The Leadership Institute is a nine-month cohort learning experience combining classes, spiritual formation, and practical application to equip people to find, develop, and sustain God’s unique calling on their life. Join us for lunch on May 19 to learn more about the Leadership Institute. Registration is encouraged.

An Interactive Service of Lament
May 19 | 7-8pm | High School Room (across from Fellowship Hall)
Following our prayers of lament during Lent, several PBC people have expressed a desire for more opportunities for communal lament as a way to honestly worship by leaning into our pain and suffering. Ernest, Dylan, and Michelle will lead us in a time of songs, reflections, and sharing of personal, corporate, and global laments. We encourage you to join us if you have sorrows or grief to share and would like to bring them to God alongside others.

Hotel de Zink Shelter
This month, PBC is hosting Hotel de Zink, an emergency shelter for adult men and women that rotates locations among local churches. In Memory
One of our PBC family, Terri Chen, went home to be with the Lord on April 7, 2024. Terri had served as a Children’s Ministry and Awana leader. Please pray for her husband Calvin and their children. A memorial service will be held at 10am on Saturday, June 8.

Pray for Three
Are there people in your life you want to help know and experience Jesus? We encourage you to choose three people, write down their names, and pray often for them. Our Alpha prayer team would like to join you in praying for your three people. Go to pbc.org/alpha if you would like to share your names (first name only, please).

Prayer Requests
How can we pray for you? Text your prayer request to 650-679-7729 during this morning’s service and the pastors and elders will pray for you during this coming week. You can also send your prayer request to pbc.org/pray (or click “Prayer” at the top of the page). We’d also like to hear your praise reports for prayers you previously submitted.
