The Bread of Life
After hearing the news of the resurrection on Easter Day, we want to follow up by asking the question, "Who is this Jesus who rose from the dead?" One of the best ways to encounter Jesus is to explore what he says about himself. The gospel of John records seven different statements beginning with "I am" in which Jesus reveals his identity. This morning we'll begin by looking at Jesus' claim that he is the "bread of life." What significance does this statement have for people in general and the Jews in particular? What does it mean to us? And if Jesus is bread, how are we fed by him? As we follow these threads, we'll discover that this metaphor runs deeper than we ever imagined.
