Jesus' resurrection guarantees that we also will be raised. This is a statement of fact, but much remains unexplained. Our resurrection bodies are related to earthly bodies (as a seed to a plant), but there are great differences as well. We must be changed and we require bodies that are imperishable, bodies that have left the power of death behind.

This sermon series picks up where we left off in February 2012 in the series "Moving on to Maturity" - in the middle of chapter six of 1 Corinthians. As we move selectively through the remaining ten chapters of the letter, we will use Paul's discussion of 'body' (Greek, soma) in its various meanings to choose passages for study. First, we'll consider the use of the word 'soma' to describe our ordinary human body (especially its sexual capacity), "the body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord." Further on, 'soma' signifies the bread of the communion table, "this is my body which is for you." and shortly after, the apostle declares of the church community, "you are the body of Christ." Finally in chapter 15 we read, "the body...is raised imperishable." These texts offer direct instruction and suggest wonderful implications. We should choose obedience and embrace opportunity. 'The Lord is for the body'. Let's not miss out.
